Description of Work Unit
The Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University is a large academic and research department in the Walter Scott, Jr.
College of Engineering.
We currently have nineteen faculty members, eighty graduate students, over seventy full-time researchers and postdoctoral fellows, and an outstanding and dedicated support staff, that comprise one of the most research-active units at the university.
The department conducts more than $14M in externally sponsored research each year and is nationally ranked near the top of its field.
The Barnes Research Group is comprised of highly motivated researchers passionate about climate variability and change and the data analysis tools used to understand it.
Areas of active research include earth system predictability, subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) prediction, climate dynamics, climate change and sustainability, and explainable AI for earth system research.

Position Summary
The individual in this position will perform research in the exciting area of climate science and explainable AI in collaboration with the Barnes Group.
Position Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate B.
S.
degrees in both computer science and atmospheric science.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience applying data science techniques (e.
g.
machine learning) to earth science data sets in the form of research
