We are looking for a “Data whizz” to contribute to new and ongoing data-related workflows (e.g. data cleaning, data analysis, data modeling, data science/ML, remote sensing analysis, etc.) with the option of contributing to more tech- and data-related projects where required and if desired by the applicant (e.g. data pipelines, dashboards, etc.).
Responsibilities could include (but are not limited to):
- Prepare research and/or operational data for analysis
- Conduct data analysis or create predictive models/tools:
- To improve existing PxD operations/systems/services
- As part of research projects (e.g. ongoing RCTs, A/B testing, etc)
- Prototype and conduct feasibility analysis for new services (e.g. remote sensing based advisory)
- Set up and conduct short term research projects (e.g. A/B testing)
- Support implementation and/or performance tuning of dashboards (R/Shiny, SQL)
- Support streamlining and automation of analytics for PxD’s research and product teams
The ideal candidate for this internship placement has many or all of the following:
- Bachelors or Graduate (ongoing) degree in a quantitative or analytical field (e.g. statistic, economics, data science, engineering, computer science, international development, etc.) or demonstrable knowledge of university-level math and statistics
- Proficiency in at least one of R, Python, and/or Stata (preferably both Stata and 1+ other)
- Command of statistics, data analysis, and data visualization
- Ability to communicate effectively in a fully remote team
Desirable/ one or more of the following:
- Knowledge of Databases/SQL/etc.
- Data Science / Machine Learning experience
- Familiarity with working with Remote Sensing and GIS data (e.g. raster and shapefile data, GEE, geopandas or equivalent, GIS data APIs, ArcGIS/QGIS, etc.)
- Familiarity with quantitative research methods (A/B tests, RCTs, etc.)
- Familiarity with one or more of PxD’s program countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America
- Experience working in international development
